Ultrafine particles in Greenland

Observations at Summit, Greenland, show significant growth in ultrafine particles just above the snow surface during four late-spring study periods ranging from one to five days. Particle growth was observed during a range of temperatures and wind directions. The growth was likely dominated by the condensation of organic compounds, presumably from the snow surface. With no vegetation or industry nearby, these observations may serve as a link between long-range transport of midlatitude pollutants and climate regulation in the remote Arctic.
