Obtaining photographs, illustrations, video, and other multimedia

Editors, publishers, designers, teachers, students, science enthusiasts—we can help illustrate your Earth science stories with still photography, illustrations, video, and other formats. Our images are available for news media and non-commercial use, unless otherwise indicated. We retain copyright and require compliance with our Terms of Use. Resources include:

The NCAR Mesa Lab and grounds are federal property. Commercial photography that is unrelated to our scientific research mission is not permitted. Use of the NCAR Mesa Lab site or any other NCAR or UCAR location for TV or film productions is not permitted for any commercial or nonscientific purpose. Limited permission for productions that are not about our organization but deemed by UCAR to be appropriately aligned with our mission require review and approval by UCAR of both the proposal and the final product. Requests for review should be made via our contact form. For news or documentary film productions about our organization, please contact the NCAR | UCAR Media Office.

Email editions

Daily: The email edition goes to the entire staff of NCAR and UCAR automatically (all staff with an @ucar.edu email address). Staff cannot be subscribed or unsubscribed; consult your local systems administrator if you're not receiving the email service.

Weekly: Staff may also sign up to receive weekly alerts, emailed on Mondays, with the Calendar, Cafeteria Menu, and/or Visitors for the coming week. Subscribe to coming-week alerts.

Classifieds are available, on the web only, using your UCAS password.

Staff Services & Assistance

Communications provides a wide range of services to support all staff at NCAR and UCAR as you interact with colleagues and the world at large. Here are a few examples.

	Outreach planning and communications strategy Talk with us first! We can help with outreach and publicity essentials, such as targeting your audience, refining your group's identity, honing your content strategy, choosing the best channels (from brochures to video to websites to social media) and other possibilities. Contact Communications Administrative Support (ext. 1657) to get started.
	Media relations When the phone rings and a reporter or producer is on the line, a best practice is to ask the caller what their deadline is and assure them that someone will get back to them. Then call us for assistance. We also like to hear about upcoming research, publications, events, or projects that might be of interest to the media—the sooner the better! 	Logo & Visual Brand Guidelines This guide to using NCAR/UCP/UCAR logos, website banners, and slide templates outlines the visual elements that represent our collective identity—the shared brand by which others recognize who we are as an organization.
