The following statement is from Antonio Busalacchi, president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). UCAR is a consortium of more than 120 universities, including the University of Virginia, which manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation.
On behalf of UCAR, I would like to express our profound sadness and distress over the lives lost in last night’s shooting on the University of Virginia campus. We offer our condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured, along with the entire UVA community.
The University of Virginia has been a valued member of our consortium of universities since 1979. Members of our staff have worked closely with colleagues in the School of Engineering and Department of Environmental Sciences, partnering on research that benefits our global community. Now we join that global community in mourning the loss of three young people in another senseless act of violence.
Our hearts are with our colleagues and friends in Charlottesville today.
