The following statement is from Antonio Busalacchi, president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). UCAR is a consortium of more than 130 universities, including Florida State University, and manages the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) on behalf of the NSF.
I want to acknowledge the tragic shooting on the campus of Florida State University yesterday that claimed the lives of two people and left at least another six wounded. FSU is a UCAR Member institution and also holds a very special place for me as my alma mater.
On behalf of UCAR, I offer our deepest condolences to the families and love ones of those who lost their lives or were injured, our colleagues at FSU, and the entire Tallahassee community. Together we mourn this senseless loss of life. News of mass violence is always difficult, and I am particularly struck by how this impacts the lives of young people. Students who should be celebrating the end of another semester and looking forward to the next stage of their lives are instead left to process this heartbreaking event at their school.
