The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) has assembled an experienced and diverse search committee of experts from across the nation to find the next director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
The 12-member committee will be chaired by Kristie Boering. A UCAR trustee, Boering is the Lieselotte and David Templeton Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. The other committee members include a broad array of NCAR and UCAR administrators and scientists, as well as top Earth system science experts from the research community.
"These individuals have generously agreed to take a leading role in finding the next director," said UCAR President Antonio Busalacchi. "They represent the breadth, depth, and diversity of key stakeholders in our community, and they will each bring tremendous expertise and insights to the search process."
The committee will be supported by Witt/Kieffer, an executive search firm with expertise in recruitment of leaders for national scientific and research organizations.
The current NCAR director, James Hurrell, is stepping down this summer to take a position as the Walter Scott Presidential Chair in Environmental Science and Engineering at Colorado State University.
"The role of NCAR director is critically important to our community and we will be seeking an internationally recognized scientific leader with exemplary management experience," Busalacchi said. "My sincere thanks to the individuals on the search committee for committing their time to this important priority."
