Free family fun at Super Science Saturday

Explore Earth science through hands-on activities and demonstrations

Oct 18, 2024 - by Staff

Be part of “The Science Quest” at this year’s Super Science Saturday. The annual science celebration will take place Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) Mesa Lab in Boulder. Whether you're from the Shire or Mordor, or another adventuring party, everyone is welcome!

Featured activities include weather balloon launches, face painting, NSF NCAR Wizards performing hands-on Earth science demonstrations, and more. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the dropsonde, a weather device that is dropped from planes and collects data about the atmosphere, there will also be live dropsonde drops and data collection analysis.

“This year’s theme is ‘The Science Quest’ with a focus on adventuring and exploration,” said Katie Wolfson of the UCAR Center for Science Education. “We look forward to Super Science Saturday every year and are excited to explore Earth science with the community.” UCAR is the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, which provides education and research services and manages NCAR under sponsorship by the National Science Foundation.

In the event that the parking reaches capacity at this popular event, cars will be allowed in on a one-car-in, one-car-out basis. The planning team encourages visitors to carpool, bike, or hike to the event. Please plan accordingly.
