A new art exhibit, Exploring Art Through Water, will debut at the Mesa Laboratory on the campus of the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) during a reception on Friday, May 9. The juried show is a collaboration between Friends of the National Center, Museum of Boulder, and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) Center for Science Education.
“This is the second annual community art show to be hosted at NSF NCAR and the pieces are powerful,” said Emma Byers, Friends of the National Center development manager. “The range of emotions the artists have captured is sure to inspire reflection and conversation about the ways water shapes our landscapes, lives, and future.”
The exhibit features pieces of art from 34 local artists who were selected by a jury composed of scientists and artists. The art explores our relationship with this essential element through mediums such as recycled materials, photography, oil paintings, and more. All the pieces will be displayed in the Mesa Lab Café for the next five months.
The reception on May 9 will feature light refreshments and tours of the Mesa Lab’s hands-on Earth system science exhibits. Space is limited, so community members wishing to attend the reception should RSVP at the event website. Beyond the opening reception, the exhibit can be viewed by the public anytime the Mesa Lab is open until October 9, 2025.
