Four new trustees have been elected to the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) Board at the organization’s Annual Members Meeting. UCAR also welcomed back The Ohio State University as a member institution to its consortium of colleges and universities.

The new trustees are Susan Lepri, University of Michigan; Marcia McNutt, National Academy of Sciences (at-large); Michael Pritchard, NVIDIA (at-large); and R. Saravanan, Texas A&M University.

In addition, current trustees Javier Fochesatto, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and Janet Sprintall, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, were elected for a second term on the 18-member board.

UCAR manages the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation. In addition, UCAR Community Programs (UCP) provide a suite of innovative resources, tools, and services to researchers, educators, and practitioners in the Earth system science community.

“Our new and returning trustees bring extensive experience and dedication that will ensure that UCAR continues to advance research, education, and technology to benefit society,” said UCAR Interim President Eric Barron. “We are also excited to welcome Ohio State back into our ranks. We look forward to working with our colleagues there and at all of our member institutions as we accelerate scientific discovery and train the next generation of Earth system researchers."

UCAR is a nonprofit consortium of 129 North American colleges and universities focused on research and training in Earth system science.
