UCAR filed a motion seeking a preliminary injunction to halt the action being taken by federal agencies to divest UCAR and NSF NCAR of their stewardship, maintenance, or operations responsibilities over the NSF NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC).

Barron will succeed current UCAR President Antonio Busalacchi, who will transition to president emeritus and special advisor to the interim president before retiring on June 4.

On March 13, Pieternel Levelt, an associate director of the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR), received the 2026 Snellius Medal. The Snellius medal is a prestigious award that is only given once every ten years by the Dutch Society for the Promotion of Natural Sciences, Medicine, and Surgery.

UCAR today filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado against the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF); the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); the United States Department of Commerce (DOC); the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB); and their respective directors in their official capacity.
