We believe a better understanding of the Earth system makes for better stories.
We periodically offer training for journalists in our areas of expertise, which include climate change, weather, water, air quality, and space weather. Our philosophy is to give journalists an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the science behind the headlines. How do climate models actually work? Why is it so hard to predict the weather more than a week in advance? How do scientists handle uncertainty in their models? What new observations of the Earth system would be the most valuable?
We offer our training during Journalism Summits held onsite at our facilities in Boulder, Colorado, and as online Mini Journalism Summits. Check back for listings of upcoming opportunities. If you have questions, please contact Audrey Merket at amerket@ucar.edu.
