When our family bought our last car, we debated about the color, wondering if a white car would be cooler on our summer road trips across the American West than a darker-colored car. We ended up purchasing the white car. But was it for the right reason?

Eleven days can go by in no time, but their brevity was accentuated for 27 graduate students at a summer colloquium on 1–12 June. The goal was to give students a taste of fieldwork by having them organize and conduct mini–field experiments and draw meaningful results from the data.

As part of its Walter Orr Roberts Distinguished Lecture series, UCAR will present a special lecture next week by NASA scientist James E. Hansen, one of the nation's most respected experts on climate change.

Volunteers across the country are welcoming spring by taking part in a nationwide initiative, known as Project BudBurst, to track climate change by recording the timing of flowers and foliage.
