UCAR President Antonio Busalacchi told lawmakers the success of U.S. weather forecasting efforts relies on increasingly productive collaborations among a triad consisting of the academic and research communities, the public sector, and the private sector.

NCAR Associate Director William Mahoney testified in Congress today about the need to protect radio frequencies that are needed for weather forecasts and understanding the climate system.

NCAR is inviting scientists worldwide to help further develop two of its premiere geoscience data visualization and analysis software programs: GeoCAT (Geoscience Community Analysis Toolkit) and VAPOR (Visualization and Analysis Platform for Ocean, Atmosphere, and Solar Researchers).

NCAR is taking part in a major national initiative to advance artificial intelligence in research and education.

A slew of new papers collectively show that a wide range of phenomena across the atmosphere, oceans, and land may be predictable on time horizons that stretch from a year to a decade out. The new studies are all derived from the Decadal Prediction Large Ensemble.
